Day at the Docks has been cancelled due to high water resulting from Hurricane Lee. Some of the events will be rescheduled. Stay tuned: Day at the Docks was started in 2003 to celebrate the "Spirit of Hatteras" after the village recovered from Hurricane Isabel as an intact community, anchored by commercial and charter boat fishing. The event celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and continues as a confirmation of the community's strength.

Festivities begin with Seafood Under the Stars, a six-course chef dinner with optional wine pairing featuring locally sourced seafood, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Hatteras Civic Center in Hatteras Village. Tickets cost $55 each or $75 with the wine pairing.

Day at the Docks continues Sept. 16 , starting with an 8 a.m. 5K Fun Run, followed by seafood cooking demonstrations, a chowder cook-off, vendors, exhibitors and a 6 p.m. blessing of the commercial and charter fishing fleets.
