NC Working Group has crafted gear to cut down NC Shrimp bycatch by 50%
In 2014, NC Marine Fisheries created a 12 member working group, including fishermen and net makers, to reduce the NC Shrimp bycatch by an additional 40%, which is more than the federally mandated 30%. The group had three years to complete this project and are confident that they have created a solution. The group crafted four sets of gear that they will be presenting to the NC Marine Fisheries commission and says it cuts down on NC Shrimp bycatch by 50 %.
